Meditation Teacher Training
The British Institute of Meditation offers an 80-hour science-based, face-to-face online Meditation Teacher Training course, using the Mindfulness Meditation Plus program.
The program offers a well-rounded, science-based insight into all aspects of meditation and mindfulness.
As well as covering all the main types of meditation, with time spent practicing each one, the course also covers meditation for children and meditation for pain. Confidence in creating and guiding your own meditations is slowly built up and developed in a supportive and nurturing environment.
If you like science, you will enjoy this course. The science is easy to understand, and in addition to the science behind meditation and mindfulness, it also covers emotions, impulses and happiness.
Although secular, the course is still suitable for all religious backgrounds.
The structure of the course is a weekly, 2-hour lesson on zoom, for 12 weeks. Many past students have described the course as ‘transformational’.
This course has been run by Sydney Institute of Meditation since 2020, and received nothing but 5-star reviews. Please take a look at their website, or the Google Business reviews for Sydney Institute of Meditation, to appreciate how rewarding, transformational and life-enhancing this program is. We are excited to be expanding and bringing this course to you in the UK.
Meditation Teacher Training Course Options
There are now two options:
- If you simply wish to deepen your own practice and understanding of meditation, you can choose to do the course without receiving a certificate at the end. This allows a participant to engage with the course to the level of their comfort. For example, if you prefer not to complete some of the course work, you do not need to. You can enjoy being guided by others, without having to do any guiding yourself. There is a £100 discount for this option.
- The second option is for those who wish to receive a certificate at completion.
Skills we aim to develop
- A deeper personal understanding of yourself, mindfulness and meditation, and as a result, much more self-awareness.
- Knowledge and experience of all the main types of meditation.
- How to create and guide meditations for individuals / groups / corporate sessions / children.
- Experience in leading practices, and hence confidence.
- Knowledge of the science behind mindfulness and meditation.
- An understanding of what happiness is, the chemicals in the brain responsible for it, how we evolved to have these chemicals, and how to produce them.
- An understanding of emotions and impulses.
- The science behind optimism.
- How to communicate information effectively.
There are no prerequisites for doing this Meditation Teacher Training course. It starts from basics so no prior knowledge is required.
When you finish this course you will be a Certified Meditation Teacher and can teach meditation.
Course Format
The course consists of 24 hours face-to-face contact, and 56 hours of self-study. The contact hours are online on zoom, and it works surprisingly well.
The self-study is approximately 5 hours of work between each lesson. It consists of reading the prescribed textbook, meditation practice of different types, preparing meditation scripts (4 in total), practice guiding, some mindfulness practices, and one assignment over the 12 weeks.
Accreditation
There is no accrediting body in the UK or Europe set up specifically for the purpose of overseeing the teaching of Meditation. Consequently, this course is accredited by the Meditation Association of Australia (MA), which is currently the only accrediting body established purely for overseeing and maintaining standards of Meditation teaching and training courses, in the world. Therefore, the course is of the highest calibre. And for many health practitioners, it can be used for CPD points.
